Role Overview:
New York Life Direct is the industry leader in direct-to-consumer life insurance, delivering streamlined coverage directly to individuals while bypassing traditional agent models. Beginning in June and ending in August, this 10-week summer internship program provides hands-on exposure and real-world experience within the Finance organization supporting NYL Direct. Interns will work closely with finance professionals to support financial reporting, analysis, and operational excellence initiatives that are critical to the business.This hybrid role includes in-office collaboration in our Tampa office (Tuesday–Thursday) and offers meaningful interaction with senior leaders, cross-functional partners, and fellow interns.
What You’ll Do:
As a NYL Direct Finance Intern , you will be fully integrated into the team’s day-to-day operations and contribute to work that directly supports financial reporting, controls, and decision-making. This is a true immersion into corporate finance and accounting within one of the most trusted and enduring organizations in the industry.
During the summer, you will:
Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
Research, document, and resolve account variances and discrepancies
Compile and review monthly and quarterly financial documentation
Utilize administrative and financial systems to research account differences, identify errors, and support testing of new products or system changes
Support internal and external financial requests, management reporting, and ad hoc analyses
Assist with quarter-end and year-end close activities while ensuring strong financial controls
Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation
Participate in case studies, special projects, and a final presentation
Engage in professional development workshops, networking events, and fireside chats with senior leaders

Required Skills:
Rising Junior or Senior pursuing an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field at an accredited 4-year college or university
Demonstrated leadership or meaningful involvement in campus or community activities

Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $25/hr
Overtime eligible: Nonexempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
