Job Description
The Director of Security is responsible for managing the Security Shift Managers and the day-to-day operations of the Security Department to ensure the safety and security of patrons and employees, as well as the safeguarding of all Belterra Casino Resort property. They are also responsible for ensuring that casino operations are conducted in accordance with State Gaming Regulations, and that casino patrons are not engaged in illegal activities.
The Directory of Security:
- Delivers superior internal and external guest service. Resolves guest complaints and ensures that the highest level of guest service is rendered at all times.
- Responsible for hiring, training, motivating, evaluating, and supervising the management staff on all shifts to ensure they receive adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established objectives.
- Understands department objectives, standards, guidelines, and budget to achieve effective supervision of department.
- Communicates effectively and timely with all other members of Security Leadership.
- Establishes and maintains training and development procedures to ensure extraordinary guest service standards are achieved.
- Ensures that all company and departmental procedures are followed; assists various local, state and federal authorities in various activities and investigations to ensure that procedures and laws are observed.
- Maintains current information on local criminal activity, etc., to ensure the protection of company assets, guests and team members; develops and maintains communications with law enforcement agencies and security personnel of other gaming facilities.
- Maintains a respectful and transparent relationships with the Indiana Gaming Commission.
- Provides support to departmental management in the event of sensitive and/or dangerous situations involving terminations, thefts, team member or guest issues, etc.
- Responsible for ensuring training is conducted on various topics such as: CPR/AED, First-Aid, Bomb Search & Recognition, Underage Awareness & Prevention, Emergency Action Planning, Report Writing, investigation of accidents, etc.
- Establishes, implements, and monitors emergency procedures to ensure prompt and safe handling of emergencies including but not limited to fire, flood, evacuation, man-overboard, severe weather, active shooter, bomb threat, etc. May act as the On-Scene Leader for any life safety emergency on the vessel to ensure safety of casino guests, employees and property. Responsible for scheduling, coordination, and execution of emergency response plan training/practice sessions and submission of such plan to the IGC on an annual basis in accordance with the rules outlined at 68 IAC 8-2.
- Maintains a high level of awareness as to criminal and civil laws as it pertains to Belterra Resort and conducts investigations where required.
- Coordinates security investigation efforts with outside law enforcement agencies to ensure proper handling of criminal violations of patrons or employees; may occasionally appear in court in criminal or civil proceedings.
- Works with various departments to design and conduct highly sensitive investigations to facilitate fact-finding probe into potentially illegal or inappropriate activities.
- Prepare complete and accurate reports to ensure that management is kept abreast of security related incidents.
- Responsible for transportation standards and the maintenance of department vehicles.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the VP/General Manager.
Qualifications
- Five years or more of Security management experience, or related experience in Law Enforcement / Military / Hospitality
- Associates degree or higher, preferred
- CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens Certification, preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain all licenses / certifications per Federal, State, and Gaming regulations.
- Must successfully pass background check.
- Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening.
- Must possess good driving record.
- Thorough understanding of civil and criminal laws.
- Basic knowledge of county and state ordinances.
- Knowledge of gaming regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of electronic, video, and alarm functions.
- Equipment and machines used, but not limited to, are Hand radios, monitors, fire extinguishers, resuscitation equipment, recording devices including video, VCRs, fireworks system and fire command room, two-way radio, multi-switcher intercom panel, telephone, fax machine, Key Control System and P.C. computer.
- This position spends a majority of on-duty time standing and/or walking in public areas of the property, including but not limited to, the gaming floor, hotel, restaurants, meeting spaces, parking lots, and grounds.
- Must be able to effectively and efficiently transverse stairs, uneven surfaces, varied flooring surfaces and ground coverings while patrolling, responding to calls for service or emergency situations.
- Ability to compose, review and comprehend, clear, concise and accurate reports.
- Ability to design and deliver effective training programs related to safety and security topics.
- Must be able to identify and quickly respond to potential problems, altercations and conflicts and defend self and others in combative situations.
- Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs, move money boxes, carts and drop equipment as necessary.
- Must be able to assist sick or injured guests and/or employees.
- Ability to communicate courteously, effectively, and professionally with guests, outside contacts and all levels of employees.
- Must be able to use tools and equipment, including but not limited to, keys, flashlights, radios, computers and other tools specific to the position.
- Must be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedules
- Ability to perform duties under varying conditions, including but not limited to, exposure to varying levels of smoke, crowds, noise, and changing weather conditions.
This knowledge and these abilities are typically acquired through a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Business, or closely related field, five years of management level Security experience in a hotel casino environment or other closely related field, or through an acceptable combination of education and experience.
