Job Description

Work LocationFlexible. This internship is designed to be full-time and in person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate. Expected duration3-6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe internship is in the Web Services Section of the News and Media Division of the Department of Global Communications. The section is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and overall support of the UN's flagship public internet website and many related sub sites that are managed by the Department of Global Communications (DGC). Within limits of delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for one or more of the following duties: • Support the development of a scalable, data-driven website by contributing to both back-end and front-end tasks. • Assist with automated web data collection using Python and Scrapy. • Contribute to JavaScript-based front-end features and user interactions. • Participate in version-controlled collaboration using Git. • Assist in content formatting, layout optimization, and integration of visuals such as graphics, photos, and videos. • Support light video editing (e.g., subtitles/audio) or creation of short clips as needed. • Utilize web and multimedia tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CSS, WordPress, or Drupal. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must also: -Be computer literate in standard software applications - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
