Job Description

The Compression Operator will master and execute essential pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including material dispensing, blending, granulation, tablet compression, encapsulation, and coating operations. This role offers comprehensive cross-training opportunities as proficiency is demonstrated in each manufacturing technique. All work must be performed in strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and safety protocols, with meticulous attention to documentation and gowning procedures.

  • Onsite in Vandalia, OH
  • 12 hour rotating shift (6am-6pm or 6pm-6am)

Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Operations (Responsibilities may encompass multiple manufacturing techniques based on skill level and experience)

  • Equipment Maintenance & Setup
    • Clean and maintain production rooms and manufacturing equipment including mills, mixers, ovens, and granulators
    • Configure dispensing areas according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Batch Manufacturing Record specifications
    • Document all setup, cleaning, and maintenance activities in logbooks and required paperwork
  • Material Handling & Dispensing
    • Retrieve raw materials from warehouse following SOPs and Production Batch Records
    • Verify approved raw material and packaging material specifications against Batch Manufacturing Records
    • Process material issuance and maintain accurate records in Production Batch Records, inventory cards, and related documentation
    • Confirm material expiration and retest dates prior to dispensing
  • Production Operations
    • Operate granulation equipment and processes
    • Run coating equipment including Coating Pans (Accela Cota, Compulab) and dust collection systems
    • Execute tablet compression and encapsulation per batch Manufacturing Record specifications
    • Operate comprehensive equipment suite including:
      • Encapsulation machinery
      • Tablet compression equipment (Kilian S520, Syntheses 500, tablet presses)
      • Support equipment (drum lifters, dedusters, metal detectors, scales, micrometers, hardness testers, printers, inspection machines)
  • Quality & Compliance
    • Maintain clean, organized work areas and equipment per SOPs and supervisor direction
    • Consistently apply current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) policies and procedures
    • Follow all department SOPs and safety policies
    • Complete mandatory company training programs
    • Wear required respiratory protection (medical clearance required)

Required Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in GMP-regulated environment with compression experience
  • Oral Solid Dose manufacturing experience strongly preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient computer skills for training completion and system interface
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Mathematical competency with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals across various units of measure
  • Capability to present information effectively to small groups
  • Ability to interpret and execute detailed instructions in written, oral, or diagram format
  • Common-sense problem-solving skills for complex manufacturing environments

Physical & Administrative Requirements

  • Adherence to established work schedules
  • Flexibility to perform additional duties as assigned
  • Ability to obtain medical clearance for respiratory protection equipment
