Job Description

Juhi Bagaitkar Lab

The Bagaitkar lab seeks highly motivated individuals to investigate how Nox2 NADPH oxidase regulates neutrophil responses in murine models of chronic inflammation and autoimmunity. Nox2-derived oxidants are essential in regulating the nature and magnitude of immune effector functions in various myeloid cells. The major focus of this project would be to mechanistically elucidate the role of Nox2 in lupus and chronic granulomatous disease taking advantage of various conditional knockout mice.

Candidates should have experience in these areas:

  • Strong background in immunology and experience in advanced cellular and molecular immunology techniques, including multicolor flow cytometry and other relevant techniques.
  • Prior knowledge and practical experience in murine models of inflammation and infection and conditional knockout mice.
  • Candidates should be capable of designing and carrying out high-level, complex research experiments independently.
  • Experience with T cell and B Cell research
  • Some bioinformatics or computational biology experience.

Essential Functions

  • Designs experiments, develops protocols, and conducts research under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
  • Assists in the training and supervision of technical support staff in performing specific techniques essential to carrying out the research program.
  • Records and analyzes data generated by the research study. Assists in the development of hypotheses for further investigation from the results of the studies performed.
  • Assists with the preparation of scientific and technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Presents findings at local and national research forums.
  • Collaborates with other ongoing research efforts either at NCH or at The Ohio State University.
  • Works toward research independence, preparing to submit proposals to and obtain funding from external granting agencies.

Education

  • PhD or equivalent degree in relevant field of science, required.
