General Description 

The RN in the Operating Room circulates and coordinates the surgical team in all aspects of O.R. activities, providing for optimum perioperative nursing care to patients. The nurse is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of the environment utilizing the nursing process. Our operating room nurses provide individual care to patients before, during and after surgery.

Essential Job Duties 

• Ensures that the surgical room is sterile and safe for the patient
• Ensures the surgical room is properly set for the surgical procedure
• Must have strong attention to detail and physical stamina to handle long, required work hours
• Assesses the needs of the patient during the procedure, to ensure the best outcome
• Works with the Physician and Anesthesia Provider to safely care for the patient during the surgery
• Keeps a record the surgical procedure, supplies and instruments
• Assist Anesthesia Provider during induction and in the event of an emergency

Qualifications 

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred
• Possess or eligible for a current Arizona Registered Nurse License
• ACLS certification required
• Prior Circulating Nurse experience

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions 

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; must be able to stand/walk for up to 70% of the work day; must be able to lift , transfer, turn and position residents weighing up to 125 lbs. unassisted, or with the assistance of one for a resident weighing over 125 lbs. May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior.  Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally.  May be exposed to communicable diseases including the HIV and HBV viruses.  Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions.
