Position Overview

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire a Residential Care Worker at the IL Center for Rehabilitation and Education – Roosevelt located in Chicago, Illinois. This position provides social guidance and training at the facility; provides adequate physical care and supervision for the students in feeding, toileting, bathing, dressing and other bodily hygiene and cleanliness needs; maintains work area and resident’s living area for cleanliness and sanitation; communicates pertinent information concerning each student’s programs and progress; carries out medical and nursing orders including assigned therapy and dietary orders; and participates in preparation of roommate assignments, disciplinary action, unit rules, and guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Provides social guidance and training at the facility.
  • Provides adequate physical care and supervision for the students in feeding, toileting, bathing, dressing and other bodily hygiene and cleanliness needs.
  • Maintains work area and resident’s living area for cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Travels to escort students in and around the community as well as provides hands-on responsibilities in a community setting such as school, church, medical and dental appointments, work sites and leisure activities.
  • Provides planning, guidance, and leadership during student free time activities.
  • Communicates pertinent information concerning each student’s programs and progress.
  • Carries out medical and nursing orders including assigned therapy and dietary orders.
  • Participates in preparation of roommate assignments, disciplinary action, unit rules, and guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to an A.A. degree, preferably in childcare, sociology or human services, OR requires two (2) years of experience in the care and supervision of children as could be gained in a day care facility or Head Start Program.
  • Requires the completion of an agency approved training program OR  an additional year of the above experience.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
