Job Description

Overview:

The Safety Manager is a dynamic, solutions-oriented administrative professional responsible for the development, implementation, and management of safety initiatives. The Safety Manager will focus on mitigating hazards, ensure adherence to regulatory requirements while cultivating a culture of safety throughout the company. This role will focus on not only operational safety but transportation and vehicle adherence as well. This management role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and must be comfortable communicating and working with multiple management levels to solve problems and create lasting results.

Essential Functions:

• Design and Implement Safety Policies, Procedures and Programs
• Maintain Safety manuals regularly making required changes and updates.
• Manage safety procedures, and programs focused on vehicle operation and compliance, freight transportation, driver safety and certifications.
• Manages day-to-day safety operations focused on Risk Assessments, PPE Compliance, workplace hazards, and Organizational Adherence
• Identify Potential Workplace Hazards and implement controls designed to minimize and eliminate risks.
• Coordinate with Human Resources to position and train new employees through safety orientation, leadership specific programs, along with safety training programs (i.e. Driver training, heavy equipment operation, asbestos, and other hazardous materials)
• Monitor safety incidents and accidents; as the lead investigator, this position will work with Human Resources to ensure proper reporting is completed in a timely manner and conduct a root cause risk analysis to ensure corrective actions and prevention protocols are in place.
• Regulatory Compliance as it pertains to DOT, Hazardous Materials, Hauling Licenses, Decals (i.e. A901, DE SW), Act 90 Compliance, vehicle registration and title management. Conduct mandatory audits and Updates (i.e. DOT Biennial)
• Conduct internal audits focusing on safety, documentation, and inspections ensuring Mazza is following not only company policies but in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well.
• Primary Safety Liaison when dealing with regulatory agencies and outside entities.
• Design and conduct training programs focused on safety and OSHA compliance specific to company needs (i.e. heavy equipment, forklift operation, asbestos safety, HazCom, First Aid, and other safety Issues as they arise)
• Manage Insurance Claims in a timely manner working with the COO and/or CEO during the claims process.
• Organize and Conduct Emergency response drills and address deficiencies when needed, with special focus on Fire Safety and Prevention.
• Championing a proactive culture that embraces safety and solicits feedback designed to ensure workplace adherence.
• Monitors budget and operating metrics while diagnosing and improving processes, procedures, and performance. • Maintain all Safety Records and Documentation while submitting required reports.
• Manage Safety Equipment and Resources keeping them up to date and compliant.

Qualifications:

• Experience in licensing, and records compliance
• Transportation and Sustainability Safety a plus
• Ability to provide and articulate weekly reports to managers and Executives.
• Experience in developing and achieving desired results as it pertains to safety initiatives.
• Knowledge of Safety Platforms (DOT SMS / Samba Safety) with a willingness to learn new platforms as industries evolve.
• Seasoned Risk Management professional versed in analysis and solutions.
• Strong Organizational and Time Management Skills
• Subject matter expert with the unique ability to train and motivate employees.
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health or related fields.
• Communicate Safety to team members in line with Executive and company goals.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the Unites States.
• 2 years of proven success in a Safety Supervisory/Leadership Role

Work Environment:

• Full-Time position working in multiple environments, (i.e.) corporate office, field locations, and job sites.
• May involve exposure to hazardous and stressful conditions that will require sound critical thinking skills along with the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Will require travel between locations as needed.
