The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solutions providers - striving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them.
Facilities Management is responsible for the effective operation of Irvine campus buildings, grounds and utilities; for providing a safe, functionally suitable and aesthetic environment in support of academic, research and public service programs of the University. Providing comprehensive management of campus facilities requires the employment of approximately 325 personnel ranging in classification from custodians and groundskeepers to more technical skilled crafts such as electricians and plumbers, and professional design staff and engineers. These services cover more than 150 buildings of approximately 6 million gross square feet, and1,475 acres of grounds. Facilities Management has an annual operating budget exceeding $80 million in expenditures, with operating funds of $30 million and $15 million for reimbursable campus activities.

Responsibilities:

Covered under University series concepts/job specification for Custodian. Under supervision, incumbents perform semiskilled or skilled cleaning, housekeeping or general maintenance. Performs individually or as part of a team. Incumbents may experience a varying degree of contact with the public depending on the nature, location and assigned hours of work. Makes recommendations to improve processes and/or procedures.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Experience in specialist janitorial operations.
  • Previous general custodial experience.
  • Substantial experience in Carpet and Hard Floor Care
  • General knowledge of safety precautions in the use of equipment, chemicals, lifting, customer traffic, etc.
  • Understand emergency preparation and response plan.
  • Cleaning Skills: Able to sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, polish, perform overhead cleaning, wash walls & windows, clean bathrooms, kitchens, office areas and other building surfaces.
  • Ability to use all cleaning equipment: Floor machines for stripping and waxing of hard floors, buffing and polishing. Carpet machines used for bonneting, extraction, and encapsulation. Upholstery machines, tank vacuums, upright and backpack vacuums, wide area vacuums, mops and brooms, extension poles, short ladders, automatic scrubbers.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, ability to select appropriate chemical for the job, ability to mix and dilute chemicals appropriately, and handle chemicals safely.
  • Ability to read and understand labels or instructions for cleaning solutions utilized in housekeeping as well as basic work instructions from supervisor.
  • Ability to read, write, give and follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to prepare repair orders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, co-workers, and supervisor.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn and implement security measures.
  • Ability to follow blueprints and diagrams.
  • 1-3 years experience in specialist janitorial operations, general custodial work, and substantial hands-on expertise in carpet and hard floor care.


Preferred:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
  • Experience on a graveyard shift.
  • Knowledge of Campus and Campus Infrastructure.


Special Conditions:

  • Must accept a 5 day workweek beginning at 7:30pm and ending at 4:00am, including occasional overtime assignments. Schedule to be determined by management. Workweek and times are subject to change.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
  • Must be able to operate a Facilities Management vehicle.
  • Must be able to outside regularly scheduled shift.
  • Must be able to wear PPE.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $21.48- $24.91 (Hourly).
